Farnsworth House

FarnsworthThis site is limited to 20 people.

The premises include 11 guest rooms, an attic, and a mourning theatre. The Farnsworth is reportedly haunted with 14 spirits.

Reports are of guests being so terrified that they've actually left in the middle of the night and stayed at the Holiday Inn across the street! Some have been known to stay in their cars all night. There are reports of a child being levitated by Mary, the ghost of a Midwife still searching for the child she delivered stillborn at the house ages ago. Other reports of phenomena include: cold spots, the smell of lilacs, disembodied voices calling the names of guests in the middle of the night, banging on the second floor windows, and running faucets turned off by unseen hands. The lucky raffle winner will stay in the room formerly known as The Jennie Wade Room. This room is beautiful, comfortable and very haunted. Take a chance if you dare.

The Jennie Wade House

The Jennie Wade HouseThis site is limited to 20 people.

Who was Jennie Wade?

Mary Virginia Wade, or better known as Jennie Wade, was the only civilian killed during the American Civil War Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1863. Jennie was killed while baking bread for Union soldiers in the now famous tourist destination The Jennie Wade House. She was struck by a single bullet that traveled through two wooden doors and was killed instantly. Jennie Wade was 20 years old.

The house looks very much the same as it did over 140 years ago. There are reports of children playing under the beds moving the bed skirts, and chains moving by themselves. Photos of spirits have been captured when taken in mirrors, foot steps of ghostly soldiers can be heard, and there are claims of the phantom smell of baking bread.

Civil War Orphanage

This site is limited to 15 people.

Soldier’s Museum featuring all major events of the Civil War. Step through these doors and a hundred years drop away. Here is the battered drum that rolled beneath the roar of so many battles… the damn yankee rifle that can be "loaded on Sunday and fired all week" …an officer’s uniform, gala with tarnished braid…a rusted canteen. With exciting techniques of "Light and Sound" the most beautiful exacting and exquisitely detailed battle Dioramas ever created of the Civil War bring history dramatically and colorfully alive at the Soldier’s National Museum. A presentation of historic authenticity that will make your spine tingle. Follow every battle with all their significance to every American, from the first shot fired on Fort Sumter to Appomattox and surrender. Your visit will be a thrilling experience and the basis for a deeper understanding of our past.

This famous old building is now the Soldier’s National Museum. During the Battle of Gettysburg it was used by General Howard as his headquarters. In 1866, it was turned into an orphanage that survived until 1877. It was known as “The National Soldier’s Orphan Homestead” and at one time housed 130 boys and girls. The above photo is Johnny, the wax figure of an orphan chained to the wall in a replica of the dark, dank, cellar-dungeon of the old Civil War orphanage. Hear Charley Weaver’s story of “Johnny’s” dungeon punishment during your Gettysburg visit.

General Lee's Headquarters

General Lee's HeadquartersThis site is limited to 20 people.

*Fireside Suite

The building sits almost exactly on the spot where 4 out of 6 artillery pieces sat (Stewart's 4th U.S. Regulars, Battery B). These artillery pieces were heavily engaged on the afternoon of July 1st and were almost captured. Many men and all of the horses from this battery were killed. Also, men from the 6th Wisconsin, 2nd and 42nd Mississippi and 55th N.C. regiments fought on this ground during the morning of the 1st.

We receive reports of someone walking on the roof, dark shapes, lights turning on and off, items moved in this suite. Also, several guests have taken some amazing pictures of the area immediately in front of the suite, the sides and the back of the building.

*Upper Dustman Suite

It was used as a civil war hospital during the battle. We receive reports of things being moved and lights turning on and off.

*Lower Dustman Suite

Also used as a civil war hospital, we have received many reports of a "shadow" man, lights turning on and off and things being moved.

*Buford Suite

We receive many reports of someone walking up and down the stairs in the middle of the night. Several people have reported seeing a Confederate officer on the stairs.

*The Inn on Seminary Ridge

A portion of this building was a home that was here at the time of the battle. The original owner's mother died in the bedroom. There are many reports of children playing in the living room. A cemetery (which is no longer there) once sat next to this building. The current owner has many of the headstones. Also, there is a report of a Confederate officer who "snapped" on Day 1 of the battle. They kept him in the basement until he got a grip. Also, the barn where the wounded soldier was "buried alive under hundreds of dead bodies" was located just to the side of this building.

*The General Lee Suite

Was used as General Lee's Headquarters during the three days of the battle. We have a lot of reports of people smelling cigars (no smoking room) and personal items constantly being moved around.

Our housekeepers have reported seeing a Confederate soldier peeping around buildings, lights turning on and off in rooms while they are working, t.v.s coming on, etc.
